The origin

It started with a near miss.

38 years ago, a woman on her cell phone made a right turn into our lane. I almost hit her. My husband muttered one word: igmfu.

I had no idea what he meant. He explained: it's what people are when they don't think of others — when they just act selfishly.

That word entered our family vocabulary. Today, those moments happen every single day — in traffic, in line at the coffee shop, in meetings, in group chats.

We collected so many stories we knew the world needed to share them too.
